midge

as i mentioned before, our cat, scout likes to drink the christmas tree water. at first, she only drank out of the secondary reservoir. this secondary reservoir has a tube in it so when the main water compartment is empty, the tube sucks the water from the secondary reservoir into the main one. pretty high-tech stuff for only $19.99! as said in the original post, i covered the secondary reservoir with tin foil so she couldn't drink it anymore.

one day i caught her trying to stick her head in the main reservoir, right beside the trunk of the tree. i yelled at her and she ran away. later on, i noticed that she had a big gop of sap on her right ear and since sap is sticky, her ear was getting matted and gross.

a day or so later, the big gob of sap was gone, as was the fur it was attached to. scout now has a bald spot on her ear.

a photojournalistic account of this story:

before:

please note the consistency of fur on her right ear.

in between:

"no! don't do it!"

after:

"you just had to, didn't you? was it worth it?"

the "after" picture is a little difficult to see, but on her right ear, there is clearly a patch of fur missing. she looks all hard-core and butchy now and looks like she was in a cat fight (tee hee!)...so to punish her, i have started calling her "midge" which seems like a hard-core-er, butchy-er moniker. i don't think she quite understands her punishment so i shall continue it until she gets it, or at least until the fur grows back. it will grow back, right?
