re: life during wartime

at first, i was following hahn's comparison to her gay revelation to wearing glasses for the first time - not the gay part, but the sudden clarity. i remember being able to see individual pieces of gravel at my feet when i got glasses as a child. but it's not like i didn't know gravel as a whole existed. she didn't know what leaves were?! that's where she lost me. then she started saying her gay stuff and then i knew we were never going to see eye to eye. ha, get it? eye to eye? glasses? right.

the "hey, torres" moment reminded me of the episode on friends when chandler and monica were taking a bath together, but no one knew about their relationship at the time, so when joey came into the bathroom, monica hid underwater. except that derek is much smarter than joey. but that's a given. and prettier. but that's a given too.

seeing cristina's face when she was called christine = priceless. and i wonder why every character on this show has to have some kind of dark and twisty background - but i guess that army guy owen is living in the "after" explains why he is there. and we don't have to worry about him being a crazy stalker. so i guess that's good.

and they played a snippet of vampire weekend's walcott! that made my day.

hallowe'eny brilliance

for hallowe'en, i've decided to dress up as a mac make-up artist - i like to say i'm going to be a MMUA, and no, i'm not making kissy noises at you. my plan is to wear all black, carry my make-up train case thingie that i got for christmas a few years ago, and i figured i could go to the mac counter at the bay to get them to do my make-up. you just need to buy one thing - darn, this means i'm going to have to splurge to buy a new eyeshadow - and they'll do your make-up for free. isn't this the most wonderful idea??

so i called today to make sure that they would be able to do it, and i told the girl that i wanted to dress up as a mac make-up artist, and she said dubiously, "are you serious?!" i answered meekly "...yes...," and she exploded with, "OH MY GOD, I LOVE YOU!" then she said they were fully booked, but if i came in, she could do an "eye demo" for me because she thinks i'm the best.

now i just have to get my hands on a brush belt, and i'll be ready to go.

Because with all the different kind of teams you may find at Seattle Grace – I believe Bailey is the ultimate coach of all of them. This domino kidney swap, this was her project. Her baby. In her final scene with the Chief in the conference room, we ended up cutting a couple lines for time that for me, epitomized Bailey’s journey in this episode. I will re-enact them for you now. It went something like this: Chief: “Oh, and Dr. Bailey? You’re not gonna drag us all the way back from number 12 by yourself. But you did a hell of a job trying today.” And Bailey says “Thank you. Sir.” Translation, this number 12 ranking thing hasn’t just rattled the Chief – it’s rattled Bailey too. Deeply rattled. But at the end of the day, it’s gonna be okay cause Bailey knows the Chief’s got her back. And Richard knows he’s got Bailey on his side, in his hospital, working her little heart and soul out for him. They’ll get through it. With each other."

that's more like it! and i love bailey too. she said something in this episode that was a total "chief" line, with the intonation and everything. which continues to support my theory that she's going to take over by the end of the season...YOU JUST WAIT, PEOPLE! (that's a chief line! i didn't even mean for that to happen, i was just trying to be authoritative. you know you're addicted when...)

oh, and i like how the chief didn't tear a piece off of meredith for dropping the kidney. i was worried after he yelled at her at the beginning of this season. she was hard enough on herself, really.

okay, so i'm behind...this is unprecedented, but i'll have to comment on both episodes at once.

re: brave new world
cristina's acting was fabulous in this (and continues into the next episode) - i think it's because she reminds me of one of my friends. i've referred to the tranquility of "derm" more than once since i've seen the episode and i loved the ending where the trailer became meredith's sanctuary.

while all the euphemisms were funny, i'm still not sold on the lesbian storyline. although...it's starting to make more sense now that i saw the preview for next week's episode.

and i continue to like the little squabbles that mer and der have, even though mer is getting awfully whiny and self-wallowing these days. was she always like that?! maybe she was and i just never noticed.

re: there's no "i" in team
i didn't get a chance to watch this until tonight. i loooved this one. mer is annoyingly whiny again, but i'm willing to give her another chance. izzie's "I CARE ABOUT YOU I CARE ABOUT YOU I CARE ABOUT YOU I CARE ABOUT YOU I CARE ABOUT YOU" was about as inappropriately funny as cristina's "TRY AGAIN" from season 3.

i wondered about the father paying his son to donate his kidney (is it wrong that i almost hesitated to type that because they turned a blind eye to it on the show so i thought in turn, i had to keep it a secret? yes, i think it's definitely wrong and i'm going to seek medical attention...right after i finish this post, of course)...right, digressing, sorry...i want to know what the story was, was it that the father was an abusive alcoholic during his son's youth? i thought they would go into alex's story in more detail - clearly his father died before they could make ammends and now he regrets it - but that was a bit disappointing that they just left that hanging. touching scene when father and son reunite emotionally.

THE KIDNEY IN THE JAR. SWOON! i love you derek! it totally makes up for the fact that you were a jerk for most of the episode! as far as the kidney being a natural nightlight? who knew?

lexie and george - talk about role reversal for george. someone as smart as lexie should have known that he didn't get to pick his interns - she was right there when they were lining all the interns up, george clearly had no part in it, so why would she think he didn't ask for her? silly, emotional woman.

the best part? the fact that i can FINALLY read the writer's blogs - wouldn't it suck if they haven't updated either?! and the next episode is only 2 days away! yipppeee!

super woman

one of my dear friends was admitted into the hospital in the urgent care unit (UCU?) due to a super-humanly high muscle enzyme count. she's technically not even in a patient room, just a room with dusty rose paint trim and a clock-radio from 1973. groovy. oh, and of course a hospital bed, an IV thingie and all that good stuff.

needless to say, my grey's blog is a bit behind - and because of that, i haven't read the writer's blog yet! but watching out for my friend and keeping her entertained is priority #1 right now; i'm sure you understand.

get well soon, ol' sport. we're thinking of you and hoping for a speedy regression of those stupid muscle enzymes.

i am thankful for fingernails so i can effectively scratch all of my bug bites from thanksgiving weekend.

i'm not sure where they came from - either from when we were outside or maybe while i was sleeping because they are mostly situated on my left arm. good thing too, since i'm right-handed (makes scratching easier). i've decided to name my new friends - if you can't beat 'em, join 'em, right? so far i've come up with:

> david and goliath (one big, one small, i'll let you figure out which is which)

bug bite amigos aside, we had a lovely thanksgiving weekend with the family, enjoying some down-time, beautiful weather and yummy food.

when i returned to work on tuesday, my japanese co-worker gave me a box of japanese sweets! for some reason, no one else was as excited about my green tea-flavoured mochi with red bean paste inside as i was. that's ok, that means there is more for me!

re: here comes the flood

when derek first tried to kick izzie and alex out, i wondered what happened to his promise of baby steps. but i suppose they're trying to bring out the cristina-needing-meredith-to-need-her storyline and also trying to introduce a little conflict into the relationship to keep things healthy and believeable. i'm okay with that. and of course meredith isn't actually happy yet and is far from done with the head shrinkage. but she'll get there.

the chief is trying so hard to elevate about #12, that he's become blind in the process. further to my predictions from last week, i think he'll retire by the end of the season and bailey will take over.

i liked alex today. i thoroughly enjoyed the scene(s) where he was testing everyone's pain threshold (i wondered why he was licking his fingers when he first did it to cristina), and his sheepish kind of "hello" at the end. cute.

why are the heaping so much make-up on izzie? and so little on meredith? speaking of the law of averages, you'd think they'd practice what they preach...

imitation = sincerest form of flattery

my student told me tonight that she considered dressing up as me for hallowe'en! how cool is that?! i told her that she should definitely do that, and that she could even borrow my clothes if she wanted. she replied matter-of-factly, "no way, your clothes would be way too small for me". did i mention she's 12 years old?? *sob*

but after a lot of thought, she decided to be a fairy instead. hmph. fairies are so overrated. she did say reassuringly that maybe next year she would dress up as me, and luckily, i have a whole year to grow. i told her that she should shrink instead because short is so the new tall, so she offered to put herself in the dryer.

could you imagine if that actually worked? maybe she's onto something...

goodbye, cruel world

the company that owns winners and homesense has come out with a new store called "stylesense". it's like winners or homesense with discount prices on designer items, but only selling shoes, purses and accessories. while this seems like the best thing ever, it is not great when all of the shoes are too big. doesn't anyone carry size 5.5 anymore?! and by the way, since when was i a size 5.5? it appears that not only did i miss out on some growth hormones, i am also shrinking.

soon i'll wither away to nothing and all that will be left behind to prove my existance will be some shoes that never did fit properly.
