seriously..."ma'am"??

the starbucks that i frequent employs a guy who is probably a few years younger than me. he is always nice to me, but he seems to make a point of calling me "ma'am". i don't consider myself to be too old, or old-looking, so this strikes me as strange.

his calling me "ma'am" is completely unnecessary...he just seems to tag it onto a sentence whenever he serves me, almost as if he knows how it would bother someone who isn't old enough to be called ma'am. the other day, for instance, i asked him how he was doing, and he says "i'm fine, ma'am, how are you?"

grrrr.

on another note, i seem to be blogging about starbucks a lot. i should make it another series! i could name it "starbucks should really re-examine their screening process when hiring" since i seem to be complaining about the people who work there...but that's not very nice, so we just won't go there...right, ma'am?
