re: physical attraction...chemical reaction

this is where the shocking storylines from the season premiere unravel and we realize that yes, the writers do know what they're doing...too bad they're on strike now.

george and izzie have no chemistry! i knew it! i'm sure this will somehow change in the future, but at least i can sleep well knowing that the writers don't buy their relationship either. chalk one up for sibling love.

bailey gets the chief resident job! of course she does! she's obviously the best for it. i like how bailey was so strong throughout the episode, and gave callie all the credit for her great ideas, but broke down at the end when the chief gave her the position. it showed how much she really wanted it. question...did callie actually get fired fired or just fired from the chief resident position? i'm assuming the latter...poor callie. she loses her husband. and then her title.

the unusual couples - the chief and derek...sloan and hahn...lexie and meredith...daddy and baby keisha. some of them worked well together, some didn't. i liked the asymmetry of that. one thing i didn't buy at all: when meredith was working on the mother and lexie kept bothering her asking her if she would be okay, and meredith said "i'm a little busy, okay, lex?" lex?? i say it takes two people to be friends before they can start giving each other nicknames, even if they are just unoriginal short forms of your given name.

finally, the heartbreaking scene at the end. i have issues with tv shows abruptly turning characters into alcoholics (case in point: kirsten in the o.c.), but it still made my heart ache. and in this situation i suppose it makes sense, because thatch no longer has the love of his life in his life, although you would think his daughters and granddaughter would make up for it. i guess you can never predict how people will react...that, and these aren't real characters anyway...
