the end of the 2007 turned to be a little melancholy...i found out about the recent passing of a good friend's father. he was a great man and i know he will be missed.
on a more superficial note, i finished reading one of my christmas presents, the kite runner; it was beautifully written but the stories of terrorism and needless violence have resonated in me. kris thinks i shouldn't read sad books since i seem to internalize the events, at least for a little while...but that's a sign of a well-written story, right?
we rang in the new year at a friend's house - they served an extravangant four-course meal; my favourite was the wild mushroom bisque with truffle essence and creme fraiche! wow. the cocktails were flowing and it was a great time. these friends recently had a baby so we oohed and ahhed over His Cuteness.
afterwards we were sleeping over at another friend's house and played euchre into the wee hours of the morning. fun times with close friends!
happy new year! i hope 2008 brings happiness and health, and replaces fresh wounds with fond memories.

who are these people who recently had a baby and yet are able to whip up a 4-course meal that includes TRUFFLE ESSENCE.
scandalous. or maybe i'm just pathetic for not being motivated to do that?
you don't know the half of it. they also came back from visiting family in EDMONTON at 11pm the night before.
and you're definitely not pathetic. it's not you, it's them. they're freaky.
