bargain basement miko

i'm not one to usually find great bargains. i've tried to shop at winners and other similar stores, but the digging to find good things usually just tuckers me out. i try to view it as a challenge, but i'm still not very successful.

so i went to the mall tonight to exchange a pair of shoes that i thought were too small. did i mention the shoes were $30? well, this kind of prefaces my story about finding great deals. turns out they didn't have the larger size, so after some hemming and hawing, i decided to just keep the smaller size (size 5, i might add - this upsizing thing to make americans feel better about their overweightness is apparently reaching out to shoes too. seriously, this is getting out of hand).

waste of trip? nu-uh.

i got a new sweater-dress and i wanted to find orange plastic earrings to go with it. i've been looking everywhere, but apparently this is not the season to buy orange accessories. i went to mexx, and while i was scouring through the jewellery, the sales guy asked me if he could help me. i asked if he had chunky orange plastic-y earrings, even though i couldn't find anything close to an orange hue on display. he told me that i should have come in august, when they had tons of orange, chunky, plastic-y earrings. i replied that i didn't have a dress that required orange chunky plastic-y earrings in august. at this point, i was not confident in this guy's ability to conjure jewellery out of thin air. but then he went behind the cash and dug out a bag that had a bunch of earrings from the summer! and low and behold, i got my earrings. GUESSHOWMUCHTHEYWERE? (no melissa, not three dolla - this is mexx we're talking about, and not the three dolla store) - they cost $7.99! happiness! and i found another set that goes with another outfit i have for $9.99. so i bought both.

then i went to club monaco and found a belt for kris that i'd been admiring for months. it was $9 (marked down from $69). so of course i bought it. the sales guy here tried to convince me to buy a cashmere scarf because i was saving so much money - but, i resisted. i'm NOT still thinking about the cashmere scarf...even though it was 30% off...nope, not thinking about it with adorable white polka dots on black...did i mention i love polka dots? and black and white?

in spite of being sans a beautiful cashmere scarf, today was a good day.
