i've always maintained that "red" should be its own food group. everything that is red is good. to name a few...produce (apples, strawberries, cherries, tomatoes, radishes, beets, red peppers). steak. cherry pie filling (deserves a separate mention, for sure). tabasco sauce. red candy (suckers, ju-jubes, cinnamon hearts, jelly beans, hard candy, shall i go on?). and we can't forget sweet and sour chicken ball sauce.
and i've found something else to add to the list: red velvet cake. i've never tried it, but ever since seeing it on
the apprentice years ago, i've been intrigued, i've just never had the opportunity to try it. until now!
starbucks makes red velvet cupcakes with cream cheese icing!! i tried it, and i like - i may even love. even if it stains my fingers red - i knew there was a reason why the barista offered me a fork - it is totally worth it. i'm not sure if it's worth $3, but maybe that will help me fight the urge to have one (or five) a day.
yummm.

my mother-in-law makes red velvet cake all the time. something about the redness just makes it seem so decadent! because really.. it doesn't seem to have a lot of flavour. it's not-quite chocolate, not-quite vanilla...
and i wholeheartedly agree on the red food group suggestion, with cherry pie filling being set apart for celebrity status within said group.
