if owen knows he is prone to night terrors, then why would he purposely sleep over at cristina's house? when i tried to remember this episode, i couldn't recall if they just accidentally fell asleep or if he chose to sleep over. now i see that it was the latter. sense makes no.
i love how bailey was trying to take izzie's mind off of her surgery, and kept testing her to make sure she didn't lose her skills. bailey is so amazing. with her cute little button nose. like when derek said, "we'll see you soon, dr. stevens," and izzie replies with "hope so" and before the words even escape her mouth, bailey says "know so!" - so cute. and at the end when she scolds everyone: "your friend is just fine, no thanks to any of you. tomorrow, do better." you tell 'em, bailey!
did anyone notice how the chief was grossed out that alex gave him back the cup of "swimmers" while he was eating...yet the chief still used his fork to push the cup aside, even though said fork was going to go in his mouth! ew!
i think it's ironic that cristina was coaching the dr. swinder (cancer doctor) on bedside manner. i am waiting to see dr. swinder's warm and fuzzy side, but at this point it is very difficult.
i like how derek was unshaved and shaggy for the entire episode until the end. when he proposed. swoooon.
so yes. the proposal. after the element of surprise had been effectively removed (thanks, chief), i'm sure it was difficult for derek to decide what to do. especially since he threw the ring and told meredith, aka le lemon, to fetch. you can't really top that. the chief was trying help fix the mess by convincing derek to try again and tell him that mer DID want to marry him...then acting as his wing man and forcing meredith to take the other elevator. i love that derek's proposal summed up the entire series to date - i don't like when tv shows aren't consistent, so this made me very very happy. and the fact that derek remembered which surgery it was that afterward he kissed her in the stairwell! i also love that derek was trying to look composed, but he had his hands clasped together, and his thumbs were twitching from nerves. adorable! i just wonder what all the other stuff was, in the elevator - below the x-rays. the papers looked like homemade flyers for an indie concert or something, but i highly doubt that's what they were.
i find that most hospital shows do a poor job of replicating how a patient looks after surgery - they always look too good and recover too fast...they did a good job with izzie. she looked terrible! and her lips were all cakey and dry, which is more realistic. for some reason, this makes me happy too. like they finally got it right.
and now...bring on the new episode! i'm ready!

i have one question about this episode - where were izzie's people?!? where? this made me mad at the whole lot of them. (aside from bailey - of course. she understood).
i know. i think it was a few things:
1. her people didn't know how to be her people when they were wearing their doctor hats. this was such a foreign experience for them, to have one of their own be in the hospital bed. i'm sure it scared them since they are used to feeling invincible.
2. they assumed someone was with her when really, no one was.
3. they didn't want to worry her by fussing over her. they were trying to act as if nothing was wrong. and did too good of a job.
way too good of a job. i hope they learned better for this week. and that they teach me the secret of getting an elevator love letters. (or was that the lesson i was supposed to learn last episode)
i went to question myself about why i haven't read or replied to this yet, then i remembered i had a baby on the day this aired! ha ha. of course i still found time to tune in though, that's a GIVEN.
i noticed the fork. and i was equally grossed out.
the elevator proposal was just too perfect to even describe. the elevator is such an integral symbol to the whole series! yay writers!
