re: i will follow you into the dark

first of all, i LOVE the title of this episode. probably because i love the death cab song. but also that this applies to each couple in the show. they will follow each other into the dark, even if they don't know what they will find, as long as they are together, everything will be okay. even though each couple is flawed - owen has a habit of trying to kill cristina in his sleep, lexie is a one-woman-wrecking crew to mark, meredith and derek clearly haven't gotten over their issues, callie and arizona haven't even begun their journey, and really, neither have alex and izzie now that we know for sure she has cancer - but they will still follow each other.

alex's story continues to develop and he gets more and more interesting. i love his relationship with the asian girl in this episode. and his vulnerability in the OR, as he trembles while holding the defibrillator paddles. and his pure happiness at the end with izzie. love it all. even though he has droopy biceps.

i loved izzie's proclamation: "i love lunch!" hahaha! so random and wonderful. and her positive outlook on life in the face of a terminal disease is so typical of her.

derek was so dark and bitter and mean! while it was a little shocking, i think it's appropriate given the situation. i remember back in the day when him and meredith weren't together (season 2?), and they were both miserable...sometimes he would break because he couldn't stand it anymore and be really mean to her - his angry "go home, meredith!" reminded me of their conversations from back then - the difference is that it quickly ended with meredith yelling, "FINE!" and derek yelling, "FINE!" and then they went in opposite directions. this time, meredith refused to leave and promised to stand by him. and eventually she leaves, but you know they will be okay. although, i think the most hurtful line in the history of the world is derek calling meredith a LEMON. yeowie! i am definitely putting that one in my back pocket for the next time i am really really angry at someone. so you'd better watch it and be nice to me otherwise i'll start calling you citrus fruits.

but wasn't it SO cute how derek still had the ring in his pocket while he was batting beer cans? maybe not-so-cute when he batted the ring away, but you know he'll find it again, not only for meredith, but for the sentimental value of it too.

so my new theory, now that the stupid chief ruined the proposal surprise for meredith...is that MEREDITH proposes to DEREK in the season finale, a true sign that she is fixed and ready for this. and what is she going to say? "pick me. choose me. love me." !!!!!!!!!!!!!! editor's note: i wrote this a long time ago, before i knew how the proposal really would happen. clearly i wasn't right, which is slightly disappointing, but i do like the way derek proposed so in the end, it's all good. but really, wouldn't that have been FANTASTIC for meredith to say that? sigh.

finally - did you know there is a street in london called LITTLE GREY?!?!

kris leaves for montreal on sunday, so stay tuned for my overdue blogs...this will serve as a good review for you all as we gear up for the new episode next thursday - see, i knew there was a reason why it took me so long to write these! (thanks for the excuse, melpie!)
